We had another awesome day at the Blue Lake in Rotorua. Clear blue skies and a light tail wind made for pristine conditions.
Ken Wallace took out the K1 500m in a time of 1.39.2 for the win with Lochy Tame also of Australia 2nd. Marty McDowell was third overall and first kiwi home to take his first NZ K1 sprint title. I was the 2nd kiwi home and 4th overall in 1.43.0.
Really enjoying paddling and feel that my performances were equal with my training over the last couple of months so happy with that.
It’s really good to see a lot more of the young guys coming through paddling respectably now. This will make for some tough training next week with a NZ squad camp planned.
In the K2 1000m the Aussie pair of Ken and Lochy took out the Oceania title in 3.15 with Scott Bicnill and myself chasing hard in a time of 3.18. We had a really good race and couldn’t have asked for too much more than that.
Thanks to Jamie Troughton of dscribe.co.nz for the photo of Scott and I after finishing as NZ champions in the K2 1000m.
